Answering the “Write Call”
Reading and writing have always been a part of my soul. It only takes one look at the yellowed pages of my memory box to realize words and creativity have been seeking expression from the moment I could hold a crayon.
Initially, reading, daydreaming, and writing were a means of escape. Just like every other soul out there, my family faced many challenges and struggles over the years. My source of escape grew into a passion which I held close to my heart. Only those closest to me knew I had written a 73,000 word story during middle school.
Even after I “grew up”, married, and had two wonderful boys, stories flowed from my fingertips. I could not be sane unless the stories in my head found release through life on paper. If I didn’t have a creative thought in my head, then it was a sure sign I was stressed to the point of a nervous breakdown. Writing is who I am. Still, I never dreamed that I would receive the “Write Call”.
In June 2015, my husband treated me to a writer’s conference for my birthday. I was excited to go and learn ways to improve my writing, but I never had any intention of seeking anything beyond personal gratification. God’s plan for my writing ended up being a little bit bigger.
From the very first moments of the conference, God made it clear that not only did I need to improve my writing, but I needed to begin the process of pursuing writing as a career. Over and over again He put publishing in my face, and quite honestly, through some very forceful, intimidating conversations. For me, this was not some jump up and down exciting call. This was a hope-filled terror that had me questioning if God would really use something so important to me to serve Him.
Over and over again He has proved it. Although it is not easy, I am answering the “Write Call” and following the Love that leads. May we all be reminded that His love leads us to places we never thought possible… sometimes even to answer the “Write Call.”
